Our Church History
On November 5th, 2013, New Direction Baptist Church of Bellville, Texas Incorporated was formed under the leadership of Reverend Roydrick C. Miller. The church membership started with 12 members: Reverend Roydrick C. Miller, Reverend Albert Abrams, Deacon Donald Nunn, Deacon Larry Reese, Brother Kenneth Nunn, Sr., Brother Jerret “Jake” Harris, Sis. Shemeka Miller, Sis. Marilyn Abram, Sis. Marilyn Abram, Sis. Rose Nunn, Sis. Elizabeth Nunn, Sis. Cynthia Dickson, and Sis. Ashely Ashton. The first official service was held on November 10th , 2013, in the Sens Activity Center located at 200 Briar Ridge, Bellville, Texas. The church also held service on November 17th , 2013, at the Sens Activity Center while members searched for a new location. On November 24, 2013, New Direction held its first service in its new location at 900 E. Hacienda Road located in Bellville, Texas.
December 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th New Direction Baptist Church of Bellville, Texas Inc. held pre-installation services for Reverend Roydrick C. Miller. On December 8, 2013, in the Sens Activity Center, the New Direction Baptist Church of Bellville, Texas Inc. held their official installation of their Pastor, Reverend Roydrick C. Miller and family.
On December 11th , 2013, at 7:16 p.m., the church members motioned, voted, and in unity agreed the church name should change from New Direction Baptist Church of Bellville, Texas Incorporated to New Horizons Baptist Church of Bellville, Texas Incorporated.
On February 2, 2014, Brother Kenneth Nunn Sr., Brother Ashton “A.T.” Nunn, and Brother Jerret “Jake” Harris were ordained as Deacons by Pastor Miller. September 8, 2014, God blessed NHBC to be granted the opportunity to receive 501 C3 Non-Profit Certificate. This achievement made NHBD the 3rd church in Bellville, to receive this status. As our church continued to move forward, God added to our ministerial staff with the addition of our 1st Daughter in the ministry, Minister Issie McCowan who answered God’s Call and preached her first sermon on May 18, 2016. In July of 2016, NHBC hosted the 1st Annual Austin County Praise Dance and Mime Workshop & Showcase. As God continued to add to the church, we were blessed with two additional Church Mothers, Missionary Johnnie Mae Ashton and Mother Hazel Dickson who both have made a might impact. Pastor Miller appointed Minister McCowan as Youth Minister in July he NHBC Scholarship Fund was established and Sis. Karen Houston was appointed Chairperson. In late October of 2016, Chairman Donald Nunn expressed the need for an official Usher Board to Pastor Miller and it was established, naming Sis. Brenda Runnels as President and Sis. Saleena Juarez as Vice President.
On November 13, 2016, NHBC officially dedicated the Damyon E. Bonds, Sr. Memorial Auxiliary Room. In July of 2017, the Pastor’s Aide was established and Sis. Gloria Walker was named as President. In August of 2017, Brother Ketrick Legan was appointed Youth Choir Director and Church Photographer. The Lord saw fit for us to receive a gift of Sanctuary Furniture to further beautify his house of worship. On October 9, 2017, NHBC was blessed with an addition to it Ministerial Staff when Minister Shemaun Thomas-Miller preached his initial sermon and later Rev. Marvin Thompson united with us and was licensed in the Baptist Denomination. On October 12, 2018, God saw fit to take one of his mighty Warriors home, Missionary Johnnie Mae Ashton. With her transition to glory, the NHBC Wall of Honor was established and dedicated on November 11, 2018, to serve as a visible memorial to all that have given service to the Lord within our church family. On February 11, 2021, God called Sis. Gloria Walker to her eternal reward. We miss her presence, but God loved her more! In April of 2021, Deacon Kenneth Nunn was appointed Chairman of Deacons by Pastor Miller. On April 24, 2022, Bro. Jaylin Keeton-Miller, Bro. Kyle Reese where ordained as Deacons. On January 15, 2023, Bro. Frank Jeter was ordained as Deacon and later appointed as the Assistant Chairman of Deacons by Pastor Miller.
NHBC was blessed with a gift in November of 2021, when the legacy members of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Bellville, TX came to us with the gift of a permanent homestead located at 7194 FM 529. This gift consisted of their former church building and the land it was located on. The Legacy members present at the transfer were: Deacon Nathan Harvey, Deacon Arthur Slater, Brother Robert E. Jackson and the late Sister Ruby Jackson. This unification of NHBC and Bethlehem made it possible for the legacy of Bethlehem B.C. to continue for generations to come and allows NHBC a permanent foundation to flourish.
NHBC was blessed with a grant from Oldham Little Church Foundation to aid in the renovations to the newly acquired edifice. Through willing workers and assistance from friends and family work began to resurrect the building. On December 24, 2023, NHBC held her first worship service in her new home. Throughout the year of 2024, more renovations were done and God continued bless our efforts. In November of 2024, Rev. Albert Abram was appointed as Assistant to the Pastor by Pastor Miller.
Today, NHBC remains focused to be a beacon light in the Bellville community working to continue to be…
